REVIEW: ifi Nano iDSD Black Label – A Portable Powerhouse

Full disclosure: I was sent a sample of the iFi Nano iDSD BL by way of iFi and my local supplier, the ever excellent Francois at AudioExchange, in exchange for my honest opinion and review. This is the first in a series of reviews and articles on audio noise and related gear.

UK-based ifi Audio has a strong pedigree in delivering portable audio products that almost always elevate the quality of your music experience beyond what’s possible with the average smartphone.

With the majority of modern smartphones eschewing the headphone jack in favour of wireless headphones, those that want the higher quality and variety of wired headphones need to look for other solutions. Most manufacturers supply a headphone ‘dongle’ for that very purpose, but these are typically quite basic and don’t tend to deliver the last word in audio quality.

That’s where an external device like the ifi Nano iDSD Black Label (BL for short) comes into the picture. It’s an all-in-one device that takes the digital music from your phone (or computer) and converts and amplifies it for output to high-quality wired headphones, IEMs or powered speakers.
