Earlier this year we were introduced to a superb set of cable adapters from young Chinese upstart DD Hifi (www.ddhifi.com). Today we look at another set of equally excellent adapters from the same company, but instead of upsizing 3.5mm and 2.5mm plugs to 4.4mm Pentaconn, they’ve done the reverse.
The DJ44B and DJ44C are all-metal, gold-plated, precisely-machined adapters that convert your 4.4mm cables to 2.5mm TRRS balanced and 3.5mm single-ended plugs respectively. Unlike the original set of adapters that converted up to 4.4mm, the new adapters take on a very different form to accommodate the longer, thicker Pentaconn connector. As such, they’re shaped more like mini hammers than elongated tubes, but retain the side-entry design of their sibling adapters.
Both adapters add minimal weight to the chain, and clever design cues means they’ll easily fit devices with protective covers. Moreover, because of the T-shaped profile, they can rotate to suit whichever cable direction you find most comfortable – side, up, down, or even behind the device. This added flexibility and small footprint makes them ideal for mobile use.
Sliding in a 4.4mm connector is frictionless, and the plug is seated firmly once fully inserted. The all-metal construction also gives the adapters reassuring rigidity, and the high-gloss finish and two-tone steel/gold colouration gives them a very premium feel.
